Feast day: 27th September
Patron Saint of: charities
Saint Vincent de Paul was a French Catholic priest, who dedicated himself to serving the poor.
The Saint Vincent de Paul Society (SVP) was set up in 1833 by a group of students in Paris, who were inspired by his example. In 1844 the first group was started in Britain, in London.
Today the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of England and Wales continues his work in 'turning concern into action', dedicated to tackling poverty in all it's forms by providing practical assistance to those in need.
